The Cannabis Agriculture Leadership Program (CALP) is designed for experienced cannabis farmers who want to strengthen their leadership capacity, industry influence, and cannabis agronomy knowledge. Through interactive online learning seminars, executive-level leadership assessments, and exposure to cannabis farming at a national level, CALP equips cultivation managers and head growers with stronger skills to lead high-performing teams, advocate for the sector, and make informed decisions that support farmers and industry success.

The program is open to FCF Community Members in upper cultivation management roles at Health Canada licenced facilities, with only one candidate per licence accepted each year. Ideal applicants are cannabis farmers ready to strengthen leadership skills and take on greater responsibility within their farm or the sector. This includes cultivation managers and head growers at standard & micro cultivation facilities, head growers at nursery licenced operations, and owner/operators of micro-cultivation facilities. Farmers in upper management cannabis cultivation roles are welcome to apply. Directors and Executives who are not actively working in production are not eligible, except in cases where a micro-cultivation licence holder serves as both the executive and the head grower who actively works in production.
The Cannabis Agriculture Leadership Program is designed for cannabis cultivation professionals who want to grow as leaders, advance their technical knowledge, and strengthen their understanding of cannabis farming at a national level. Success in the program requires dedication to the expectations outlined below.
All CALP program participants are expected to:
Commit a minimum of 60 hours of online and in-person education
Be prepared to step out of your comfort zone and grow as a leader
Approach program assessments and activities with an “all-in” mindset
Be open-minded & solution-focused when exploring industry challenges
Attend 6 online seminars, held on the first Saturday of each month
Attend the in-person multi-day Agricultural Leadership Retreat
Attend the in-person single-day program graduation ceremony
Complete all professional development assessments as assigned
Complete the 20-minute Individual Leadership Presentation (ILP)
Take part in FCF industry events throughout the leadership program
Collaborate respectfully with peers, instructors, and industry leaders
Uphold FCF’s values of community and leadership development
The Cannabis Agriculture Leadership Program will cover a range of seminar topics and objectives designed to strengthen your knowledge of cannabis & hemp farming on a national level. Discussions will explore how existing agriculture connects with cannabis farming, simplify cannabis agronomy for farmers, and build stronger workplace leadership skills through professional development. Outside of seminar time, each participant is required to complete an Individual Leadership Presentation (ILP) project. The participant will prepare and deliver a 20-minute presentation on an agreed upon topic relevant to leadership & cannabis.This presentation will outline a leadership challenge or opportunity in the cannabis industry that the participant is passionate about. The project will conclude with a concise plan and recommendations that can strengthen leadership performance in their organization and across the industry.

The University of Guelph is Canada’s leader in agricultural and plant science research, home to the country’s largest Department of Plant Agriculture. With expertise across crop science, agronomy, turfgrass, and horticulture, the department supports students from diploma to graduate studies. With over a decade of cannabis biology research, Guelph also holds Canada’s first Institutional Cannabis Research Licence from Health Canada, supporting new discoveries for the farming community.

FCF cannabis industry events are farmer-led and support our mission to strengthen leadership in cannabis farming, promote evidence-based knowledge, and develop direct relationships between farmers, retailers, and consumers. Each event highlights Ontario grown cannabis, encourages collaboration with industry partners, collects data that supports farmers and future research, and provides education that advances cannabis farming as an agricultural commodity across Canada.

FCF Event Volunteers play an important role in supporting Ontario’s cannabis farmers and empowering a stronger cannabis community. To make sure every event is a success, volunteers are asked to commit to the following guidelines that reflect professionalism, reliability, and respect for the values we represent as a nonprofit cannabis farming commodity organisation.
Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to contribute for your scheduled shift
Represent FCF in a positive manner, supporting a welcoming and inclusive environment
Treat all farmers, retailers, guests, and fellow volunteers with respect and professionalism
Follow event procedures and directions provided by FCF staff or event leads
Be flexible, open-minded, and adaptable to help with different roles as needed
Approach your volunteer role with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn
All volunteers must show their ID to security to confirm they are of age

FCF events are designed to showcase Ontario grown cannabis, promote farmer–retailer relationships, and create new opportunities for collaboration.
This event connects retailers with cannabis farmers while promoting Ontario grown clones and cultivation education. Health Canada licenced cannabis farmers share outdoor growing knowledge, provide access to healthy clones, and introduce retailers to new products coming to market.

The Farmers Market brings together cannabis head growers, and cultivation managers to share their knowledge directly with retailers. Retailers learn about Ontario grown cannabis products directly from the farmers. Cannabis farmers have an opportunity to talk and network with retailers about the products on their shelves.

The Ontario Harvest Festival honours cannabis farmers, Ontario agriculture, and the well-being of our farming communities. The event showcases Ontario grown cannabis products from greenhouse grows, indoor facilities, and outdoor farms. Retailers will connect with head growers, cultivation managers, lead extractors, and processors leading the Canadian cannabis industry.The event will also introduce top-selling out-of-province SKUs for Ontario retailers to consider. If retailers like a product, retailers can complete a digital survey on-site and request the product to be listed in Ontario. FCF will gather feedback and prepare a report to support out-of-province farmers seeking to enter into the OCS market if demand is demonstrated.In support of farmer mental health and agricultural communities across Canada, 50% of ticket sales and community donations will go to The Do More Agriculture Foundation - a national charitable foundation focusing on mental health in agriculture across Canada.
