Cannabis Ag Leadership Program (CALP) Overview


The Cannabis Agriculture Leadership Program (CALP) is designed for experienced cannabis farmers who want to strengthen their leadership capacity, industry influence, and cannabis agronomy knowledge. Through interactive online learning seminars, executive-level leadership assessments, and exposure to cannabis farming at a national level, CALP equips cultivation managers and head growers with stronger skills to lead high-performing teams, advocate for the sector, and make informed decisions that support farmers and industry success.

Eligible Program Candidates


The program is open to FCF Community Members in upper cultivation management roles at Health Canada licenced facilities, with only one candidate per licence accepted each year. Ideal applicants are cannabis farmers ready to strengthen leadership skills and take on greater responsibility within their farm or the sector. This includes cultivation managers and head growers at standard & micro cultivation facilities, head growers at nursery licenced operations, and owner/operators of micro-cultivation facilities. Farmers in upper management cannabis cultivation roles are welcome to apply. Directors and Executives who are not actively working in production are not eligible, except in cases where a micro-cultivation licence holder serves as both the executive and the head grower who actively works in production.

Program Expectations


The Cannabis Agriculture Leadership Program is designed for cannabis cultivation professionals who want to grow as leaders, advance their technical knowledge, and strengthen their understanding of cannabis farming at a national level. Success in the program requires dedication to the expectations outlined below.


All CALP program participants are expected to:

  • Commit a minimum of 60 hours of online and in-person education

  • Be prepared to step out of your comfort zone and grow as a leader

  • Approach program assessments and activities with an “all-in” mindset

  • Be open-minded & solution-focused when exploring industry challenges

  • Attend 6 online seminars, held on the first Saturday of each month

  • Attend the in-person multi-day Agricultural Leadership Retreat

  • Attend the in-person single-day program graduation ceremony

  • Complete all professional development assessments as assigned

  • Complete the 20-minute Individual Leadership Presentation (ILP)

  • Take part in FCF industry events throughout the leadership program

  • Collaborate respectfully with peers, instructors, and industry leaders

  • Uphold FCF’s values of community and leadership development

As part of the Cannabis Agriculture Leadership Program (CALP), participants will complete a series of executive-level leadership assessments designed to strengthen decision-making, communication, and management skills. These tools help cannabis cultivation managers and head growers become more aware and better understand their leadership style, adapt to change, manage conflict, and guide high performing teams.

    Identifies how you influence others and adapt your approach for different workplace situations.

  2. DiSC Workplace Behavioral Assessment
    Identifies behavioural tendencies to improve communication, collaboration, and leadership impact.

  3. MBTI® Workplace Profile
    Examines personality preferences to enhance problem solving and team dynamics.

  4. Emotional Intelligence EQ-i 2.0
    Measures emotional and social skills that influence leadership effectiveness.

  5. Kirton Adaption-Innovation (KAI) Inventory
    Assesses creative problem solving style to improve innovation and adaptability.

  6. Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI)
    Identifies preferred conflict handling styles to improve workplace resolution strategies.

  7. Change Style Indicator®
    Explores your response to change and strategies to lead transitions effectively.


Term Project: Individual Leadership Presentation (ILP)

Outside of seminar time, each participant is required to complete an Individual Leadership Presentation (ILP) project. The participant will prepare and deliver a 20-minute presentation on an agreed upon topic relevant to leadership & cannabis.This presentation will outline a leadership challenge or opportunity in the cannabis industry that the participant is passionate about. The project will conclude with a concise plan and recommendations that can strengthen leadership performance in their organization and across the industry.

    FCF's Leadership Team, Producer-Led Board and CALP Program Committee will review your submission.

  2. Reference & Employer Verification
    FCF will contact your reference and employer for a confirmation call regarding your program application.

  3. Virtual Interview Invite
    If your submission is selected, you’ll be contacted by the FCF Team to book a formal 30-minute interview.

  4. Decision & Next Steps
    You’ll receive an update from the FCF team. If accepted, we'll begin the onboarding process right away.

Research Overview


At FCF, we believe academic cannabis research projects will not only support our farm members, but the future of cannabis farming, both nationally and internationally. FCF's Research Committee works alongside accredited academic institutions across the country to lead academic research projects that directly supports cannabis farmers, strengthens industry knowledge, and promotes a fair, transparent, sustainable, and ethical future for cannabis farming. Through academic cannabis research, along with the support of our membership and accredited research partners who align with FCF's mission, we can advance the future of cannabis agriculture and industry knowledge.




FCF Research Committee

The Research Committee guides academic and industry research that supports Health Canada licenced farmers and strengthens cannabis agriculture nationwide. The committee reviews project proposals, builds academic partnerships, submits grant applications, oversees research projects, prepare farmer-ready research reports, and ensures studies align with FCF’s mission of transparency, innovation, sustainability, and evidence-based industry progress.

The Ontario Harvest Festival honours cannabis farmers, Ontario agriculture, and the well-being of our farming communities. The event showcases Ontario grown cannabis products from greenhouse grows, indoor facilities, and outdoor farms. Retailers will connect with head growers, cultivation managers, lead extractors, and processors leading the Canadian cannabis industry.The event will also introduce top-selling out-of-province SKUs for Ontario retailers to consider. If retailers like a product, retailers can complete a digital survey on-site and request the product to be listed in Ontario. FCF will gather feedback and prepare a report to support out-of-province farmers seeking to enter into the OCS market if demand is demonstrated.In support of farmer mental health and agricultural communities across Canada, 50% of ticket sales and community donations will go to The Do More Agriculture Foundation - a national charitable foundation focusing on mental health in agriculture across Canada.
